Finland is the last semi finalist after a strong victory over Norway. Their clinical play and ability to dominate possession proved too much for a resilient Norwegian side. With this victory, Finland not only secured their place in the semifinals: they also won a ticket to The World Games 2025. Norway, despite the loss, can hold their heads high for their spirited performance and strong defensive efforts.
First Period: Finland Takes Control After Early Shock
The quarterfinal clash between Finland and Norway began with a surprise as Joachim Terjesen wasted no time in giving Norway the lead just 32 seconds into the game. Assisted by Daniel Gidske, Terjesen’s early strike briefly stunned the Finnish side.
Finland, however, steadily found their rhythm, unleashing a barrage of shots on Norway’s goal. Goalkeeper Christopher Klungervik stood tall, making several crucial saves to keep Finland at bay. The breakthrough came at 12:52, when Justus Kainulainen fired a free hit into the top right corner to level the score.
Remarkably, Kainulainen struck again just 13 seconds later, this time finding the bottom right corner after another assist from Miska Mäkinen, flipping the game in Finland’s favor. Despite a two-minute penalty to Alpo Laitila, Norway’s powerplay efforts were neutralized by Finland’s disciplined defense.
In the dying moments of the period, Konsta Tykkyläinen added to Finland’s lead with a precise finish from Ville Lastikka’s superb cross-pass, making it 3-1 at 19:17.
Second Period: Finnish Dominance Without Many Rewards
The second period showcased Finland’s dominance, as they controlled possession with quick, precise passing that left Norway chasing the game. The Norwegian defense and Klungervik worked tirelessly, but Finland’s relentless attacks paid off at 28:45 when Luukas Hyvärinen scored the only goal of the period. Juuso Ahola provided the assist as Finland extended their lead to 4-1.
Third Period: Finland Seals the Deal
There was no shame in Norway’s effort during the final period against the well-oiled Finnish machine. Despite their best defensive efforts, Norway struggled to contain Finland’s precision and pace.
Finland extended their lead to 5-1 at 09:39 with a perfectly executed powerplay goal. Oskari Heikkilä capitalized on the opportunity, slotting the ball home with an assist from Joona Rantala.
At 14:05, a swift counterattack spearheaded by Juuso Ahola ended in a masterful goal. Ahola, after three quick passes, finished the play himself to make it 6-1, with Eemeli Akola providing the final assist.
The game ended 6-1, with Finland firmly in control, securing their spot in the semifinals, where they will face Latvia. Norway, despite the loss, showed resilience and will now compete in the fight for places 5-8.
