Storvreta keeps up with Falun by beating Kalmarsund (+Highlights)

Storvreta keeps up with Falun after beating Kalmarsund. For Kalmarsund, it was the fifth defeat in a row, after having a strong start of the season.

(Highlights at the bottom of the article)

Turning the score in the opening period

The visitors took the lead during the first part of the game, when Marcus Johansson found the net with a rebound goal. Jacob Pettersson’s save was great, but he had no chance of saving the rebound. A powerplay goal from Albin Sjöfren – with a great no-look pass from Alexander Rudd – meant the equalizer was there, following by 2-1 when Jimmie Pettersson scored (delayed penalty).

Missed penalty shot

While the statistics of the second period were in Kalmarsund’s favor, the goal difference was in Storvreta’s. Kalmarsund tried 24 times (and missed a penalty shot), in which it scored once. Storvreta? 19 tries, two goals. Sjögren scored 3-1 in 4-vs-4, Robin Nilsberth made it 5-1 after yet another beautiful assist from Rudd. In between, Kim Nilsson had failed to utilize a penalty shot. Johansson did score 4-2, assisted by Nilsson, reaching the end of the period.

Stenberg show

In the final period, Henrik Stenberg took his chance to increase his amount of points. He scored two powerplay goals in a row, both caused by 2-min penalties for Kevin Haglund. When, at 53:43, Nilsson assisted Kevin Björkström for the 6-3, Kalmarsund might have starting thinking of a comeback – but Hampus Ahren (assisted by Stenberg) en Alexander Rudd (empty net, assisted by Michael Jansson) set the final score at 8-3.
