Corin Rüttimann is the all-time WFC top (goal) scorer, with 43 goals.
Today, she scored a hat-trick in the opening game of the WFC 2019, increasing her total from 40 to 43. Her closest contestant, Cecilia Di Nardo, follows with 39 goals. We take a look at Rüttimann’s route to this record, starting in 2009.
Until now (including today’s game), Rüttimann played 31 WFC games in which she scored 61 points (43+18). She’s at third place in the top point scorers’ ranking with only Emelie Lindström (73) and Anna Wijk (64) in front of her.
Route to record
2009
Rüttimanns WFC career started in 2009 at the WFC Västerås in Sweden. In the group stage, the scored her first goal against Poland, followed by a goal against Denmark. One of her top performances during the tournament was against Russia (8-0) when she scored five goals. The final group game, against Finland, was won 3-5, but this time, Rüttimann didn’t find the net.

In the semifinal against the Czech Republic, Corin Rüttimann helped her team with one goal. As the final score was 5-1 in Switzerland’s favor, the team moved up to the final. Against Sweden, the battle was lost 2-6, despite one last goal from Rüttimann. She ended up at 7th place in the top point scorers’ ranking with 10 (9+1) points in total.
2011
Just like in 2009, Corin Rüttimann scored nine goals at her first home WFC, in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Switzerland didn’t deliver as they wanted, as the team ended up in fourth place. Rüttimann became #10 on the top point scorers’ list. Most of her nine goals in total were scored in the group stage, against Russia (3), the Netherlands (2), and Poland. Two more followed in the 12-1 won quarterfinal against Latvia. Her last goal was in the bronze final against the Czechs – a 2-3 loss.
2013
In numbers, the WFC 2013 was Corin Rüttimann’s worst tournament as she only scored four times. At that time, she was used as a defender, which explains the lack of (a lot of) goals. Her goals were scored against Latvia, Norway, and Germany (2).

2015
Back on her normal spot, in offense, Rüttimann got back to her ‘WFC routine’: scoring nine goals – just like in 2009 and 2011. A hat-trick against Poland, one goal against Finland, and two against Norway made six goals in the group stage, followed by two against Latvia in the quarterfinal and one against Sweden in the semifinal. In the bronze game against the Czech Republic – which was won by 5-4 – Rüttimann didn’t find the net.

2017
Nine goals brought Corin Rüttimann on top of the all-time WFC top scorers’ ranking, with forty goals. She scored in the group stage against Poland (2) and Sweden, followed by goals in the quarterfinal against Norway (2), the semifinal against Finland, and the bronze final against Czech Republic (3).
It was specifically this last game that brought her the honor of being the top scorer for at least two years, as her competitor Cecilia Di Nardo (Denmark) took the record on December 7, 2017, when she scored her 38th goal. Two days later, the bronze final between Switzerland and the Czech Republic ended up in a 3-2 victory for the Swiss – with a hat-trick from Rüttimann, bringing her total to 40!

2019
On the opening day of the WFC 2019, Cecilia Di Nardo put her total at 39 as she scored once against Japan. A few hours later, Corin Rüttimann set her number at 43, as she scored a hat-trick against Germany. The battle between the two isn’t over yet, but this surely is a better start for Rüttimann!
