Predicting the WFC games in the IFF app is one of the many ways to make the whole WFC experience more fun. Whether you are going for that #1 spot to win your own Unihoc stick or whether you’re in it to beat your friends, it adds a lot of excitement to watching a floorball game.

And if you are anything like me, every year the result is kinda disappointing. Perhaps you missed some games, filled in wrong numbers, made some last-minute changes that you regret (been there) but you never reach a high enough spot. And every year you promise yourself next year you will do better. And this keeps happening, year after year.

Until now. With my help, you will beat all of your friends because I have been looking at historical (H2H) data and past results to make a prediction for each matchup. Every day you will find a prediction of the day that follows where I give a prediction of how many times each team will score and the predicted goal gap.

Latvia vs Czech Republic

Both teams play their opening match on the second day of the WFC. If we look at the H2H results of the past year we see the following:

2009: 7-5
2013: 12-1
2015: 15-2
2015: 7-0
2017: 8-3

Having Czech Republic as the winners is not a very tough bet and 6-8 goals seems like a reasonable estimate. On the other site, we can expect 1-3 goals for Latvia and a difference of 3-6.

Thailand vs Singapore

An Asian brawl is what awaits us on day 2 of the WFC. Thailand and Singapore had ample meetings in the recent past so we have a lot of data to look at. Singapore is the first team in this score list:

2017: 6-3
2017: 5-6
2019: 4-5
2019: 4-1
2019: 3-2

Quite a tight match-up and one of the reasons why this group is so incredibly exciting! Singapore won the most recent battles but Thailand the two before them. I expect 4-6 goals for Singapore and 3-5 goals for Thailand with a gap of 1-2.

Finland vs Switzerland

The climax of this group is definitely Finland against Switzerland. The teams have plenty of history together and we’re looking at the last five games which Finland all won except one draw:

2017: 3-1
2018: 5-1
2018: 8-5
2019: 4-4
2019: 10-6

Finland is the favorite in this match up but host country Switzerland has a lot working for them, too. Although the scores vary a lot, the goal gap has been relatively consistent with 2-4 goals which would be a good estimate for this match, too. 3-5 goals for Finland seem likely while Switzerland can do with 2-4 goals.

Japan vs Estonia

If we look at Estonia vs Japan we clearly see Estonia as a favorite with the most recent result being 11-0 in favor of the European team. I don’t expect a result that extreme in this crucial match but 0-2 goals for Japan, 3-5 goals for Estonia and a gap of 2-4 seems reasonable.

Poland vs Germany

The two “worst” teams of this group battle it out. The first team of the list below is Poland:

2015: 8-4
2015: 3-6
2015: 2-5
2017: 5-0
2019: 7-1

In the two recent battles, Poland has been much stronger than their neighbors. I expect 4-8 goals for Poland but Germany should not be underestimated either, so 3-5 goals seems fair. Goal gap of 1-4 seems fine.

Denmark vs Norway

The thriller of group C. Denmark and Norway have played are each other’s favorite team when it comes to practice games so we have a lot of data. Denmark is the first:

2019: 1-4
2019: 4-1
2019: 2-0
2019: 3-1

Denmark seems to be the favorite in this match up with 4 out of 5 recent wins. Not many goals are scored in this match-up, it seems which is good because it means it’s more likely we can take some points from this game for our ranking. I think Denmark is the favorite here with 2-4 goals, and 1-3 goals for Norway with a gap of 2-3.
