He’s currently 13th in the SSL top scorer’s ranking, with 39 (22+17) points in 22 games, top goal scorer of his team and less than two weeks ago, he won the Champions Cup with Storvreta. Albin Sjögren is one of Sweden’s finest goal scorers and now, we asked him which materials he’s using. His answer:

“I play with the Raptor Powerlite X, flex 27 with the Q1 blade and white PRO X3M grip.”

It’s the first time we have a Salming stick in the series Stick in the Spotlights. What does Sjögren think of the stick?

“I like the stick because I can shoot good with it and make some good passes.”

Below, you can find pictures of the stick and blade. It’s worth to continue reading, as Sjögren’s hook is quite a surprise! Furthermore, we’ve also found Hugo Falk willing to tell us his thoughts about this stick and blade!

What about the blade?

“The blade is the Salming Quest 1”, Sjögren answers. It’s a very straight blade, but Sjögren turned it into something different… Check out the hook on the next picture and scroll towards the last picture for a close-up!

The hook

… is insane. Have a look at the picture below and notice that you should even tilt your head a bit to the right (pay attention to the screw) to see in detail how much ‘hook’ this blade has.

Sjögren: “Of course, I think you shoot better with a hook so that is why I have it. I have tried straight blade and hook, hook is what I like, I have more control with the ball.”

Expert thoughts

Hugo Falk (@hugofgfloorball) is here again, to let us know his thoughts about this stick and blade:

“Sjögren’s stick has been getting lighter and lighter each year and now that he plays with Powerlite X I think we’ve reached the lightest it can get. Still, a shot friendly stick with vectran that improves balance and makes it feel like you’re holding a stick rather than a piece of spaghetti so his crazy sweeper shots will remain exactly that – crazy!

And finally the biggest mystery of the whole shabang – why he’s got a white and not a grey grip. White grips feel exceptional for the first two hours though so maybe he just spends half his days changing grips?

And this big open hook; his sweeper shots make sense now! Mighty impressed that he’s got such fine technique too with that big scoop but at the end of the day I’d say he’s living proof of how diverse Q1 actually is!”

When executed well, the slapshot is the fastest shot in floorball. Where do the speed and power come from? That’s what I’m gonna dive into today, helped by ice hockey and… physics! Fact: in 2011, the record for the hardest ice hockey shot was broken: Denis Kulyash (Russia) managed to shoot with a speed of […]
