“There is a possibility that all of the games can become really close”

Matilde Lundberg is up for her second World Floorball Championships.

The 26-year-old is a forward in team Denmark. We interviewed her:

At which club do you play?

I’m currently playing in Copenhagen Floorball Club and right now we are halfway through and are in the lead in the eastern league.

I play forward in the national team, and this season I play left forward in the club.

You qualified in a group with Sweden, Norway, and France. How were these games?

There was a really big difference in the level of all the games. We beat France with a fair amount of goals so, in that game, we were the offensive team.

It was the other way around in the game against Sweden, but we actually scored a goal against them. Our games against Norway are always really close and those are also the best games to play.

You’ve played at one WFC before. What do you want to improve compared to the previous one?

Yes, last time was my first WFC so I think there is a lot to improve. I feel like a bigger part of the team this year and I feel like I have improved my play on the pitch and I really want to show that in our games.

In the group stage, you meet Japan, Estonia and (again) Norway. Goals and thoughts?

That’s all games were we have to bring our A-game if we want to win (and of course we want to win). There is a possibility that all of the games can become really close and that’s why we have to be focused from start – because our goal is to win the group.

How is your preparation for the WFC?

In the team, we have had different training weekends and we played two training games against Norway at the beginning of November. I train with the club team and play the games in the league and then I also play field hockey where I also have club training and games.

How and when did you start playing floorball?

I started playing floorball when I moved to Copenhagen in 2014 just for fun but then I was hooked. I have had field hockey since I was 5 years old and still play – so I have a small advantage there.

What was your best floorball game ever?

I think my best game was the final last year when we became national champions. I scored 3 our the 4 goals and everybody in my team played a good game and therefore it was possible for me to play a good game.

When executed well, the slapshot is the fastest shot in floorball. Where do the speed and power come from? That’s what I’m gonna dive into today, helped by ice hockey and… physics! Fact: in 2011, the record for the hardest ice hockey shot was broken: Denis Kulyash (Russia) managed to shoot with a speed of […]
