White or orange ball? The IFF has decided

During the EuroFloorball Cup, the IFF evaluated the possibility to play with different kinds of color for the used balls: white or ‘hot orange’. While the players preferred hot orange, the IFF picked white.

The reason to test out these different colors was to find out what the differences were for players, but also for (online) spectators. In floorball streams, it’s often hard to see where the ball is going.

Not optimal for online streams

IFF Secretary-General John Liljelund explained: “the EFC Jury decided to complete the ball comparison testing during warm-ups but with the same streaming set-up. The EFC 2019 ball testing showed that the orange ball is not optimal for viewing in streaming. Therefore, the IFF has made the decision that the WFC 2019 in Neuchatel will be played with the white DYNAMIC ball.”

First WFC with white ball since 2011

The World Floorball Championships 2019 will be the first (official) IFF event that is played with a white ball since the Men’s U19 WFC 2011 in Germany.

However, further testing will be done according to Liljelund: “The IFF will, in cooperation with Unihoc, continue testing with different colors and set-ups to find the best possible official match ball. We will try to take all possible aspects into account and aim to play the IFF Events with the best possible ball, also taking into consideration the different venues and streaming production set-ups.”
