The 5 most successful countries in the Women WFC [Patron Only]

With the World Floorball Championships 2019 drawing near, the time has also come to have a look at the past. The WFC has now been organized 11 times which means there have been 33 medals handed out. Time to take a look at the five countries that have managed to take one or more medals in the past.

5. Czech Republic 🥉1

Perhaps to the surprise of some, Czech Republic managed to take (only) one bronze medal in the history of the WFC. But don’t let these numbers fool you, the team has taken incredible steps forward in the last 10 years if you look at their WFCs results. For example, the team came 7th in 2003, 7th in 2005, 5th in 2007, 4th in 2009 and 3rd in 2011, and since then always ended at 4th place which is quite an achievement by itself.

4. Norway 🥉2

Once upon a time, Norway was one of the dominant teams in floorball. In fact, between 1997 and 2005 the team dominated group stages and was able to set aside all other top countries.[ppp_non_patron_only]…

However, in the play-off stages, the team consistently drew the shortest straw in the play-offs where it couldn’t capitalize on their position as a favorite and, perhaps disappointedly, only took 2 bronze medals in total.

3. Switzerland  🥇1 🥈3🥉4

One of three teams that earned themselves a gold medal in the past is Switzerland! Switzerland has been performing quite consistently in the last twenty years and had their ‘golden generation’ peaking at WFC2005 all the way in Singapore which earned them the first place defeating Sweden in the finals with 4-3. Since then the team was able to reach the finals once more, in 2009, but lost against Sweden with 2-6.

2. Finland🥇2 🥈7🥉2

With 11/11 medals Finland has earned themselves a solid second place. By earning themselves a medal in every WFC so far, the team shows why it can be considered the global elite. However, with only two wins out of 9 WFC finals, it’s clear that the team is usually the underdog in the finals.

1. Sweden🥇8 🥈1🥉2

The queen of floorball is Sweden with 11 medals of which 8 gold. Throughout history, from the first gold medal at the first-ever Women WFC in 1997 up to raising the trophy twenty years later, the team performed incredibly well on a consistent basis. The team missed the finals only twice and when reaching a finals, only lost the finals once. Incredibly, the team has never lost a WFC finals against Finland.

When executed well, the slapshot is the fastest shot in floorball. Where do the speed and power come from? That’s what I’m gonna dive into today, helped by ice hockey and… physics! Fact: in 2011, the record for the hardest ice hockey shot was broken: Denis Kulyash (Russia) managed to shoot with a speed of […]
