The WFC playoffs start!
On Wednesday, no less than four playoff games will be played and two games for 13-16th place.
10:00 CET Thailand – Japan
After Thailand’s big victory over USA, the team will play against Japan in an Asian clash in the road to 13th place.
12:00 CET Latvia – Norway
Norway won all the group stage matches albeit quite narrowly against Denmark (5-4) and Japan (2-1) and had a harder time in the group stage than many had anticipated. Latvia is their opponent, a team that is still waiting for their first win this tournament.
13:00 CET Germany vs Singapore
What an exciting game awaits us at 1 o’clock local time when Germany faces Singapore for a ticket to the quarterfinals. For Singapore it would be a historical win but they sure have a chance against a Germany who still have to show their true strength!
15:00 CET Estonia – USA
Just like our 12 o’clock game these teams will play for 13th place. Team USA is still looking for their first win of this WFC and they have two matches left to leave the tournament with at least one victory under their belt. Estonia faced tough competition in a tough group but will be looking forward to securing the 13th place.
16:00 CET Slovakia – Denmark
We can think of worse ways to continue the day than watching Slovakia battle Denmark for a place in the quarter-finals. Slovakia had a hard time in group B but managed to secure a third place which means they will be facing the runner-up of group C, Denmark.
19:00 CET Poland – Australia
Australia played a very strong group stage in which they set aside USA (5-4) and Thailand (4-1) which gave them the ticket to the playoffs. Facing them is Poland, a strong team and definitely the favorites in this game. Will the Ozzies give us the spectacle this Wednesday evening (or Thursday morning if you’re watching from Australia) deserves?
