The World Floorball Championships (WFC) 2020 in Helsinki will have a massive budget of around € 3.000.000,-. This is one of the key takeaways from the third IFF Central Board meeting of this year.
With the 2018 WFC coming up all eyes are pointed towards Prague, where later this year the most prestigious floorball tournament will be played. However, even though it is far away, some interesting facts about the WFC 2020 have come up. Exactly 10 years after the WFC2010, which was also held in Helsinki, the WFC will return to the Finnish capital to decide the world champions. The organization is already underway and from the minutes we found from the IFF Central Board meeting, we can see that this will be another massive event.
With the TV rights (Finnish YLE) and marketing deals (given to a marketing company) in cans and bags, the notes state that the event will have a budget of around € 3.000.000,-. It is also noted that the famous Hartwall Arena, which can host over 13.000 spectators and was a venue in the WFC 2010, will be used for the semifinals onwards while the smaller Helsinki Ice Hockey Arena and its training venue will be the stage of the group stage and quarter-finals with room for respectively 8.000 and 1.000 spectators.
Promotion will already start at WFC 2018 in Prague with fan events in the city. The Event Director will start in Autumn of 2018 with the aim of ultimately having 4 full-time employees dedicated to the tournament.
