After being down 1-3, a mentally strong Slovakia showed impressive strength and turned the game around to their favor and won 7-4. Tomorrow Latvia awaits in a fight for the 5th place.
It was Emelie Thorvaldsen who initiated the goal scoring for the Norwegians when she put in a return ball with her backhand after 5 minutes of play. Slovakia replied 6 minutes later through Michaela Sponiarova who was served by their captain Denisa Ferencikova with a sharp assist. Thorvaldsen countered by assisting Hildegun Holm to 1-2. Holm then followed the pattern and assisted to the next goal, 1-3.
It was in the 2nd period Slovakia shined the most with their 4 goals scored and only 1 conceded. It all started already in the 2nd minute when Sponiarova scored once again, this time without an assistant. The Slovakians made no mistake when they got a powerplay a few minutes later, and Ferencikova put them back on even ground.
KAIS Mora’s Tone Einstule made things tough for Slovakia when she put Norway in the lead again as she sniped in 3-4 from her defender position halfway through the period. But Paulina Hudakova, Slovakia’s explosive 19 year old once again performed and scored 2 straight goals to put them in a lead for the first time of the game heading into the final period.
The 5-4 lead the Slovakians had put themselves in was too precious for them to give away. In the final period they completely shut down the Norwegian offence – which has been struggling at times throughout the tournament. In the mid-section of the period Slovakia gave themselves some breathing room by scoring 2 goals to settle the final result: 7-4.
