In the Swiss NLA, six games have already been played in the playoffs. Here’s an update about the quarterfinals.
Both Köniz and Rychenberg took the lead in the series by winning game 1, but during the second game, their opponents took revenge and equalized. Zug United beat Köniz 9-6, mainly thanks to Thomas Grüter (2+3) and Billy Nilsson (2+2). The very close game seemed to be heading towards a win for Zug when they took a 7-4 lead, but Köniz got back to 7-6. It was a 2-min penalty for Köniz that gave Zug the chance to increase the gap to two again, followed by one more goal in the last minute: 9-6.
Last game, Rychenberg took the points away from the Espace-Arena and the Tigers did something similar: they also won a game outside their own arena. In Winterthur, the game was even for two periods, but in the final fifteen minutes of the game, the Tigers scored five times. They increased their lead from 3-4 to 3-9 and as Rychenberg only scored once more at 59.55, the final score was 4-9 and the playoff series was equalized: 1-1.
GC Zürich and Alligator Malans played their first match and top scorer Joël Rüegger turned out to become the hero of the day. His team turned a 1-3 score around to 3-3 and at 59.55, Rüegger scored the winning 4-3, putting his team in a 1-0 lead in the series. Reigning champions Wiler-Ersigen had an easy night against Uster: they won the game with 12-5. Matthis Hofbauer scored his 1000th NLA point (see below).
