Earlier today the Swedish gigants IKSU and the Czech underdogs Vitkovice faced eachother in the Champions Cup final. IKSU won the game 8-3 but the Czech team did a great performance. Most people expected it to be an easier final for IKSU. Vitkovice managed to keep the score very even untill the end of the second period.
During the first period the Czechs managed to play a very tight defense. It took IKSU a bit more then five minutes to score their first goal when Oona Kauppi scored after a very messy situation infront of the Vitkovice goal. Right after the goal IKSU scored another goal scored by Sofia Joelsson. Before the first period was over Vitkovice scored their first goal of the game. The goal was scored by Sarka Bolova.
IKSU managed to score earlier in the second period then in the first. 1.49 into the second period Amanda Delgado Johansson made 3-1. Three minutes after that Vitkovice scored a beautiful powerplay goal when Barbora Huskova made a sweet saucer pass through IKSU:s slot to find Veronika Enenkelova that scored 3-2 with a very calm half volley shot. It took just 39 seconds for Sofia Joelsson to score for IKSU to make it 4-2. Vitkovice kept on fighting and 12.56 into the second period Eliska Plankova reduced the IKSU lead to only one goal. During the last four minutes of the period Veera Kauppi showed why she got voted the best player in the world last year. Kauppi scored two goals in a row to set the score to 6-3. No more goals were scored in the second period.
The third period started even and the first eight minutes of the third was scoreless. IKSU failed for the second time of the game to score in their powerplay. 8.32 into the third IKSU made it 7-3 scored by the captain Emelie Wibron after a free hit. Veera Kauppi kept on showing what a good player she.is when she made 8-3 in boxplay with a wicked wrister that went bardown behind Nikola Príleská. IKSU was the better team in the game but it was a bit surprising that they did not manage to score in their three powerplays.
