Two teams remaining in the hunt for the Czech championship: Vítkovice and Mlada Boleslav. Here’s: how ‘MB’ made it to the final.
With three fantastic games upcoming on Super Saturday, it’s hard to decide which games to watch. Luckily, the Czech Final starts a bit later than the Swedish and Finnish games. The competition winner Boleslav made it to the final after a strong season. In the regular competition, the team won 22 out of 26 games and lost only four (of which two in overtime). Bad thing for them: two of these defeats happened against their opponent on Saturday, Vítkovice.
However, MB will have gained lots of confidence by playing a perfect playoff series so far. In the quarterfinals, #8 Sokol Pardubice got beaten 4-0 in games, with big numbers: 11-3, 10-1, 4-6 and 4-9. What followed was basically the same: another 4-0 victory in the semifinals, this time against #5 Sparta Praha. The scores weren’t this big this time: 5-2, 5-3, 3-4 (penalty shots) and 2-3 (overtime).
Boleslav’s strength lays both in their defense (least goals against in the competition) and in their offense. For each goal the team gets against, it scored two itself. Top players are Jiří Curney, Jan Natov and Milan Tomašík, who gained 25 (15+10), 14 (6+8) and 5 (1+4) points during the playoffs. Most important thing might be that the teams lost three times against Vítkovice already: two in regular season and one in the cup final. Revenge? It might happen on Saturday!
