Great news if you are German, Slovenian or Russian. Your country qualified for the Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships 2019 in Halifax, Canada!
In the last weeks, two European WFC Qualification tournaments were played. From 29 August until 2 September EUR2 was played which was decisively won by Germany. Hungary, as the second in that qualification tournament, had to wait for the EUR1 qualification results as only the best second-place finisher was to get a ticket to the prestigious WFC!
The EUR1 qualification tournament was held in Russia and saw the Slovenian national team take a, perhaps surprising, first place finish. Russia, even though they were the host nation, fought their way towards second place although they were the lowest ranked team at the start of the tournament. When the dust settled, Russia managed to end up with 7 points in the EUR1 qualifications which was the same amount of points Hungary, who ended second in EUR1. However, since Russia had a much higher goal difference, the team was the lucky final WFC participant from the European WFCQ series.
There are still two spots left to the Men’s U19 WFC 2019. These will be decided during the upcoming Asia Oceania qualifications. The AOFC qualifications will be played September 27th-29th in Wellington, New Zealand, with Australia, Japan, and New Zealand taking part.
The Men’s U19 WFC will be played in Halifax, Canada, 8th – 12th May 2019. This will be the first time that the Men’s U19 WFC has been held outside of Europe.
