The semifinals in the B division have been played. Russia was defeated by Slovenia, while Germany kicked out Poland. Here’s what happened in the B division last day.
Russia – Slovenia 5-8 (highlights)
After three victories in a row, Russia has been put back to earth by Slovenia, who beat them 5-8. The team took a 0-3 lead right away and even increased their lead to a five point gap halfway the game (1-6). Russia was never able to get into the game, not even in the final period when Slovenia received eighteen (!) penalty minutes.
Germany – Poland 12-4 (highlights)
Slovenia’s opponent in the final will be Germany, who won their fourth game in a row while scoring more than ten times per game. What to say about a semifinal with a score like this? Germany clearly is too strong for this division and in the final, they can prove they belong in division A. Poland meets Russia (again) in the battle for eleventh place.
USA – Canada 7-11
Home team Canada finishes the tournament at thirteenth place by beating the USA 7-11. The team wanted to show what they got and put a lot of pressure on goalkeeper Jonathan Mooney. After the first period, the game was tied (3-3), but a strong second period helped Canada towards the victory (0-4). In the final period, this four-point gap couldn’t be decreased anymore by the USA.
New Zealand – Japan 2-12 (highlights)
After three victories in a row, Japan finally awarded itself with a victory. New Zealand goes home with four losses in which the team only scored six times.
