The two teams that met each other in the quarterfinals of the playoffs last year, met again yesterday. Floorball Köniz – the current competition leader – defeated GC Zürich with big numbers: 4-10.

The game was the first of many games to be played this weekend. Köniz started off great and took the lead after only 103 seconds of playing time. Stefan Hutzli doubled the lead in period 1. In the first half of the second period, Köniz again doubled its lead after two quick goals from Fabian Michel and captain Kaspar Schmocker. Was the game over already? No: GC recovered and scored twice before the end of the period, decreasing the gap to only two goals again.

Period 3, however, became a dramatic one (seen from Zürich’s side): the team got no more than six goals against. Hutzli scored three more, the other goals were made by Jonas Ledergerber, Yann Andrea Ruh and Silvan Bolliger. As in between GC Zürich only found the net itself twice, the final score became a bitter loss for them: 4-10.

Köniz (23 points) has now taken a 5-point gap towards GC (18 points). Tomorrow the teams play again; Köniz is visiting Zug United, while GC meets Waldkirch-St. Gallen.
