Swedish international defender Emil Johansson has been rewarded the Player of the Year Award for best Swedish player for the 2018/2019 season.
The Falun captain has had a tremendous season in terms of production. Point wise the Swedish defender accumulated no less than 70 points (26+44) which ranked him 4th overall player when it comes to total points and the #1 defender with most points scored.
Although Johansson had a strong 2018, prize-wise it was lackluster year as he lost with Falun in the finals of the Swedish Championships. Later in the year, in December, the defender finished second again, this time playing for team Sweden in which the team lost the WFC finals against Finland. In 2019, the defender was ranked #3 best player in the world after the Finnish goalkeeper Eero Kosonen and defender Krister Savonen (who recently announced his transfer to a Swiss club) and on Saturday the Falun star will play in the SSL finals versus long-time rivals Storvreta.
The motivation behind the choice: “With his complete game, Falun captain Emil Johansson can win matches both by producing points and shutting it down in the back. He is a constant threat forward and extremely unpredictable on the pitch. Johansson has skills that very few players master and his eye for the game is always enjoyable. The defender is a driving force for Falun and he had the best season of his career so far.”
