Disaster Day – Home crowd loses its team (Recap Day 5)

The WFC is more than halfway! Today the first play off games were played. Here’s all you need to know:

Day 5 – Wednesday 7 December
What a day this was! All games ended in enormous victories or really tight losses. It started off with Germany who waited until 59.59 (!) to score the winning goal vs. USA. They have to face Sweden tomorrow in the first quarter-finals! After that Thailand en Australia showed the crowd a good time – and you won’t believe what happened just three seconds before the end of the game!

Twenty goals were scored at Estonia – Canada, which helped Estonia to reach the quarter-final (vs. Czech Republic on Thursday). Poland scored a lot as well, with their 14-3 win over Singapore they now will face Thailand in the hunt for 13th place. Norway waited until the last minutes too to score its winning goal – 4-3 vs. Slovakia, which brings them to the quarter-finals vs. Switzerland on Friday.

The last game of the day was a thriller: Latvia vs. Denmark. The home crowd took a 5-2 lead, but Denmark got back to 5-5. In overtime no team found the net, so penalty shots had to be taken. It was Denmark who won this series and made it to the quarter-finals vs. Finland.
