After losing in the eighth-finals yesterday, both Estonia and Denmark were confined to each other to qualify for the battle for a 9th place finish.
Perhaps tired from yesterday’s performances, neither team managed to score in the first period despite two Estonian 2-minute penalties. In the second period, Denmark took a clear lead through two goals of Klara Fjorder (one in powerplay) and Laura de Fries: 0-3. During the last period, Estonia scored its first goal, but Denmark reacted immediately and put the goal difference at three again: 1-4.
With less than ten minutes left to play, the Estonians scored 2-4 through Reti Vaart. Their best chance to get back into the game was a penalty shot, given with three minutes left to play. However, Kati Kutisaar missed the opportunity. Estonia took a timeout and decided to try scoring in 6-vs-5, taking out their goalkeeper, but with no success: no further goals were made and Denmark won the battle 2-4.
Denmark will meet the winner of USA-Germany tomorrow in the battle for 9th place, while Estonia meets the loser of that game in the battle for 11th place.
