Classic star Krister Savonen behind win against Köniz

In the first men semifinals of today it was Krister Savonen to orchestrate the victory against Swiss champions Köniz with 3 points in the first period. In the end, the Finnish champions won the semifinals with 7-1 and will tomorrow face the winner of the match between Storvreta (SWE) and Florbal MB (CZE)

The game remained relatively balanced in the the first half of the period but a successful penalty shot by Krister Savonen opened the doors for Classic. The team took a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period thanks to a goal by Nico Salo after pressure (and a pass) from Savonen and a counter goal from Eemeli Salin – also assisted by the defender who is ranked 2nd best player in the world.

In the second period, Köniz managed to score a quick goal (as seen above) but this did not result in enough moment to turn the game around. Classic’s powerplay goal in the second period by Mikko Leikkanen set the score to 4-1.

In the final period, Classic had a firm grip on the match, giving few chances to their Swiss opponents. Köniz had visible difficulty dealing with their tough Finnish – who halfway the final period scored the 5-1 during a delayed 2-minute penalty on Swiss side. With 5 minutes left on the clock, the Swiss were forced to pull their goalkeeper for 6vs5 play but this only allowed Classic to score an easy 6-1 and 7-1 goal.
