Chur Unihockey has solidified their long-term plans by (prematurely) renewing the contract with their head coach Jani Westerlund for the next two seasons (Spring 2020) with an option to extend for another two years until the season 2021/2022.
The 50-year old coach comes from Åland and led the Swiss men’s national team from 1999 to 2002. Next to that, he was the head coach of Rot-Weiss Chur, one of the predecessor clubs of Chur Unihockey.
During this period, he won the NLA championship title with Rot-Weiss Chur without making use of a single foreign player. “Not many clubs can claim that and it’s also exactly in line with our current strategy,” according to Fabio Caruso, interim present. “He will primarily look after our first team, and work actively in development. ”
Westerlund is convinced that the minimum goal of the current season, reaching the playoffs, is still possible.
