On Thursday 3 January, the (revamped) Champions Cup will take place with the two semifinals while the finals will be played on Friday the 4th.
After three years without a championship titel, SB-Pro managed to win the superfinal on April 21st, 2018. The team beat competition winner Classic due to a late-game overtime goal. The current season has not been going that well, with four losses in twelve games already. The team is at fourth place, although the gap to #1 PSS is only five points. Their first battle, starting tomorrow at 10.00, is the fight against Vitkovice (Czech Republic). A tough one, but the team certainly has a chance of reaching the finals. If SB-Pro makes it, they’ll face IKSU (Sweden) or piranha chur (Switzerland).
Players to watch
Laura Hietamäki SB-Pro’s top scorer in the Finnish league, with 17 (6+11) points after twelve games.
Tiltu Siltanen SB-Pro’s goalkeeper Siltanen is also Finland’s national goalie. She became #9 on the list of 10 best players in the world and for a reason: she’s incredibly hard to pass. SB-Pro is the runner-up on the ranking of goals against; only #1 PSS has fewer goals against (29) than SB-Pro: 44. There’s only one catch: last game, Siltanen’s teammate Ira Moilanen guarded SB-Pro’s goal, so it’ll be a surprise which goalkeeper we’ll see in action tomorrow.
Jenni Torkki The young Torkki – born in 2000 – was the one that put SB-Pro next to Classic in last year’s Superfinal. Her star is rising, as last year, she made her debut for the national team in the Finland-Sweden Challenge (1+1 points in one game). During the 2018 U19 WFC, Torkki and her team Finland U19 won silver, after losing the final against Sweden (7-2).
