On Thursday 3 January, the (revamped) Champions Cup will take place with the two semifinals while the finals will be played on Friday the 4th.
While Storvreta IBK is one of Sweden’s most successful clubs in the male SSL, this honor belongs to IKSU on the female front. The club has won the Swedish championships 6 times (2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2017 and 2018) and is on its way to secure the sixth: the team hasn’t lost a single match in 2018(!) and are unbeaten for 34 consecutive games. Not surprisingly, the team is in the lead in the Swedish SSL with the maximum 42 points after 14 games and a goal ratio of 150-40. Add to this that they have ‘home advantage’ and we have a clear favorite to win the Champions Cup, for the second time in a row.
Players to watch
Amanda Delgado Johansson
A very capable forward with national team experience despite her young age (23). She made the deciding overtime penalty in the finals of the 2017 WFC against Finland.
Emelie Wibron is one of world’s most dangerous forwards. Does the name sound familiar? That’s because she was not only part of the WFC2017 All-Star team but also was awarded tournament MVP! She is the current leader of the SSL with 43 points after 13 matches.
Another young player with tremendous experience and awarded best player of the world in 2017. In the finals of the WFC2017, she played a world-class game and showed why she deserved the title. Since the start of the season, she plays in IKSU together with her twin sister Oona Kauppi where she is ranked 2nd in the SSL point league with 41 points after 14 games
