Australia, Japan, Singapore and Thailand first teams to qualify for WFC 2019

As the AOFC WFCQ is nearly finished, with only one more playing round left (including the final and bronze final), it’s clear which teams made it to the World Floorball Championships 2019, to be held in Switzerland in December.

Australia and Japan qualified by winning their group. Australia beat Thailand, New Zealand and the Philippines, while Japan beat Singapore and Korea and (surprisingly) tied against Malaysia.

After the group stage, the group winners Australia and Japan moved on to the finals, while numbers 2 and 3 of both groups faced each other in some kind of ‘quarterfinals’. Thailand (#2 A) met Malaysia (#3 B), while #3 A New Zealand played against Singapore (#2 B). Winners of these games would move on to the bronze final – and qualify for the WFC!

Singapore didn’t have a hard time reaching the WFC, as today’s opponent New Zealand was clearly not strong enough: 10-4. Thailand had a tough time however: they played 1-1 against Malaysia in regular time. In overtime, after nearly two minutes, Nelly Johansson (playing in Sweden at IBK Alingsas) scored the winning goal.
